"Hello! My name is Jay Whitten and I'm from West Virginia in the United States. Perhaps you've heard the song? I studied linguistics at the University of Kentucky (2001) where I also received my certification to teach English as a second language. Apart from my academic interests in linguistics and semiotics, I'm also interested in art, philosophy and politics.

I began teaching English in Poland in 2002. For five years I lived in the former German city of Breslau, now called Wroclaw. I have also taught in Ettlingen, Germany. I moved to Kassel and began working for Finer English in 2008 in order to improve my financial situation and to gain more job stability. Another motivating factor was to continue to work on my German, which I began studying at Kentucky. Upon arriving in Kassel, however, I found that I had made a great decision to move here. The city of Kassel exceeded all of my expectations and I now plan on remaining in Kassel for a long time. I have also been very pleased with Finer English, the professional staff and the great teachers that I work with. Of course, last but certainly not least, my students are fantastic as well and always a joy to work with!"
